This guide covers the items the owners may wish to tackle themselves. For each, the tools, time, and pitfalls are listed. Anything beyond a confident DIYer is marked **(trade)** and should be quoted to a registered tradesperson. ## Repaint the front fence (DIY) - **Tools:** palm sander, exterior paint, brush + roller, drop sheet. - **Time:** one weekend for a 30m fence run. - **Pitfalls:** don't paint in direct sun; back-brush the picket edges to avoid drips. ## Replace kitchen tapware (DIY with care) - **Tools:** adjustable spanner, PTFE tape, bucket. - **Time:** 30 minutes per tap. - **Pitfalls:** shut off the water at the under-sink valves first, not the main. ## Lay a jute rug (DIY) - **Tools:** nothing. - **Time:** five minutes. - **Pitfalls:** rug grippers will protect timber floors and stop creep. ## **(trade)** Re-tile splashback A tiler will deliver a better finish and can replaster any loose substrate in the same visit. This is a one-day, one-tradie job.
